The Brief
When Charlotte and Mathew bought their apartment, they knew the kitchen was in need of renovation. But instead of immediately jumping into a full-scale remodel, they took some time to live in the space and get a feel for what was needed to make it awesome. By living in the kitchen, they were able to get a better sense of the layout and what features would work best for their needs. And after a few months of living with the space, they had a much clearer idea of how to renovate their kitchen to perfection.
Charlotte was inspired by a vintage pendant light she found and thought it would be the perfect centerpiece for her Victorian-inspired kitchen. The neat and tidy apartment had beautiful period-inspired architraves, and they wanted a modern clean look that also matched the period style of their home. A combination of French Provencial with hints of modern and coastal vibes sounded like the perfect way to go! This was a key part of the renovation.
Next up they really wanted to maximise every inch of space and increase their bench space. They wanted a space where they wouldn’t “bump into each other all the time”. The workflow was key for the small modern kitchen renovation Willoughby.

Charlotte pulled together her inspiration board using Canva. She took aspects of the pendant light, colours, shapes and the design and created a style for her period kitchen renovation. Having said that, it didn’t stop them from shopping around. They visited a few showrooms and heard a couple of kitchen renovation nightmare stories. Richard waved his magic wand and combined Charlotte’s design with Matthews’s functionality. The Victorian Kitchen renovation process
At first Matthew was concerned about how it was all going to come together, but what he discovered was a patient crew who knew how to renovate a kitchen. They love how The kitchen house answered all their questions and made sure they knew what was going to happen next.
The 3D kitchen design process really helped the couple to visualise the kitchen, make adjustments and help communicate their dream kitchen into life. For instance seeing the design made them realise that they needed to flip the fridge to the other side of the kitchen. Afterall who wants to be greeted by a big cold silver fridge… not the warm hug Charlotte or Matthew were looking for. And the big silver fridge was needed for their weekly meal prepping.
During the build process any concerns were always immediately addressed and sorted. The couple loved the attention to detail the team put in.
